Cotswolds and Downton Abbey

Cotswolds & Downton Abbey Tours from Walking Tours of Oxford

The Cotswolds Tour

An area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), the Cotswolds is roughly 25 miles across and 90 miles long and stretches from Stratford-upon-Avon to Bath.

The area and certainly the smaller villages can be difficult to reach by public transport and I have often been asked for driver services, so last year I bought a new four-door Mini (what car could be more British?) and now offer half-day or day services from Oxford.

It is popular to take the train or coach from London and I can then meet you and drive you into the Cotswolds before returning to Oxford for a walking tour, with free time for dinner before you return to London. Alternatively you may already be staying in Oxford and would like to be collected from your hotel.

Like our walking tours of Oxford, these excursions are completely flexible and we can visit as many (or as few) villages as you would like. A typical day might take in Bourton-on-the-water, Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and perhaps Bampton. Since the tours are private, we can go with the flow on the day, longer in Bampton and less time in Burford – no problem!

This is a service rather than a tour although some information is given along the way.

Bampton / Downton Abbey Tour

Nestled in the lush green countryside of Oxfordshire and 40 mins from Oxford lies Bampton. The village was chosen for the filming of Downton in the popular TV series. Come with us to discover the film location and see how rural Oxfordshire of today was changed into Yorkshire from a bygone era!
