Heidi Boon Rickard
Owner & Qualified Oxford Tour Guide
I’m Heidi, the founder and owner of Walking Tours of Oxford. Travel and storytelling have always been my passion, ever since studying Travel and Tourism at college.
My guiding journey began overseas, where I spent four seasons in The Netherlands leading tours during the world-famous bulbfield season, followed by three years as a holiday representative in Turkey. I later worked for several UK tour operators, gaining valuable experience in reservations and product management before life brought me to Oxford in the early 2000s.
After settling here with my young family, I retrained as a Green Badge Guide for the City of Oxford, accredited by the Institute of Tourist Guiding. In 2013, I founded Walking Tours of Oxford to offer high-quality, authentic Oxford walking tours led by qualified local guides. What started with private group tours soon expanded into popular daily tours for individuals and small groups from around the world.
I take great pride in ensuring that every guest enjoys a first-class experience, with tours that are informative, engaging, and full of fascinating Oxford stories. During the Covid lockdown, when travel came to a pause, I contributed to The Morse, Lewis and Endeavour book — which became a bestseller in the Bite Size Books series for two consecutive years.
Having watched my eldest son complete his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate at Oxford University, I also have personal insight into the experience of studying and living in this remarkable city.
Whether you’re joining me for a private Oxford tour or one of our daily walking tours, I look forward to sharing the history, architecture and hidden corners that make Oxford such a truly special place to explore.
